LOS ANGELES, February 14, 2012 – ‘A Smile as Big as the Moon’, a new Hallmark Hall of Fame® film starring John Corbett (Sex and the City, Hallmark Hall of Fame’s November Christmas) and Jessy Schram (Unstoppable, Once Upon a Time) is now available for streaming online and to TV on the new Boxee™ and Roku™ SpiritClips Channel. After a successful premier broadcast on the ABC television network and a brief run on the Hallmark Channel, viewers my now enjoy watching ‘A Smile as Big as the Moon’ anytime with on-demand viewing from SpiritClips.com.
“SpiritClips.com is very proud to be presenting Hallmark Hall of Fame’s newest film A ‘Smile as Big as the Moon’ to our members. It’s an amazing story of hope and achievement and another one of Hallmark Hall of Fame’s beautifully crafted productions,” stated Rob Fried, Founder and CEO of SpiritClips.com.
In the film, John Corbett portrays Mike Kersjes, a Michigan high school football coach and Special Education teacher. Kersjes inspires and helps his ‘special needs’ (Down syndrome, ADD, autism, dyslexia, etc.) students to achieve their impossible dream: attending Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Space Camp is an extremely competitive education program. Prior to Kersjes’ efforts, it had been exclusive to elite math and science students. ‘A Smile as Big as the Moon’ depicts Kersjes’ challenge in trying to make his students’ seemingly impossible dream become an inspiring reality. School administrators oppose the plan due to costs and doubt about the students’ participation. Space Camp officials are initially reluctant to change the status quo. When Kersjes and his students are finally given the green light, the rigorous required teaching, learning and training is lengthy and taxing on the students. But they and Kersjes persevere.
“Our members always look forward to the newest Hallmark Hall of Fame release on SpiritClips.com and the films are met with great appreciation,” stated Kate Hunter, Director of Marketing & Communications for SpiritClips.com. “I’m certain ‘A Smile as Big as the Moon’ will receive positive reviews from our members, and also non-members who visit our site to watch the film on-demand.”
A Smile as Big as the Moon is a Hallmark Hall of Fame Production and is based on the memoir of the same title, written by Mike Kersjes with Joe Layden. The script is by Tom Rickman (Coal Miner’s Daughter, Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Front of the Class). It is directed by James Sadwith (Elvis, Life is Wild). Executive producers are Brent Shields (Beyond the Blackboard, The Lost Valentine) and Dan Paulson (Saving Jessica Lynch, Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Pictures of Hollis Woods). Many of the special-ed students in the film are actually played by young ‘special needs’ and actors.
Watch the NEW Hallmark Hall of Fame® production, ‘A Smile as Big as the Moon’ online at SpiritClips.com or on the new Boxee™ & Roku™ SpiritClips Channel. Based on a True Story, the film stars John Corbett as the dedicated and inspiring teacher of special needs students.
