Daily Inspiration #125: A Tiger and a Dolphin Meet Cute

dolphin-and-tiger-
Akaasha, a tiger cub at the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in California, was instantly attracted to Maverick, a 14 month old dolphin, when the tiger passed the dolphin’s fishtank on its daily walk.

From the picture, it seems that a deep connection was instantly sparked between the two young, yet very different mammals.

I suppose opposites attract in the animal kingdom as well.

Daily Inspiration #106: Save-A-Stray This Weekend

There are many deserving animals out there that need love and are eager to give love in return. This weekend, an unprecedented 14 shelters across the Los Angeles area will be hosting Save-A-Stray, an event that encourages you to adopt a pet this holiday season instead of buying one. As an added incentive, adoption fees, which include spaying/neutering, are about 50 percent off!

Here’s a video segment featuring some of the pooches from participating shelters for Save-A-Stray (aired on KTLA earlier this week):

SpiritClips will be at the Southeast Area Animal Care Center in Downey shooting a documentary about the many deserving pets there that will hopefully find good homes. We hope to see you there!

Daily Inspiration #89: Susan’s Dreams Came True

Susan Boyle has surprised her critics, yet again.

Susan Boyle’s debut album “I Dreamed a Dream” to be released on Monday, has produced pre order sales which are off the charts. Her album has the biggest CD pre-order sales in the history of global online retailer Amazon.com. And that shouldn’t surprise many.

The 48 year old singer from Scotland, was an overnight sensation when she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables on “Britain’s Got Talent,” which was watched by over 10 million viewers in April. Her audition set a new YouTube record racking up an astonishing 100 million hits, as tens of millions of fans and the curious flocked to the internet to hear what all the fuzz, I mean fuss was about.

Here is her moving rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” that won over so many:

Go, Susan!

Lassie may have seemed like an exceptional dog, but there are many more like her, new studies show.

“Life as a Labradoodle may sound free and easy, but if you’re Jet, who lives in New Jersey, there is a lot of work to be done.

He is both a seizure alert dog and a psychiatric service dog whose owner has epilepsy, severe anxiety, depression, various phobias and hypoglycemia. Jet has been trained to anticipate seizures, panic attacks and plunging blood sugar and will alert his owner to these things by staring intently at her until she does something about the problem. He will drop a toy in her lap to snap her out of a dissociative state. If she has a seizure, he will position himself so that his body is under her head to cushion a fall.”

The military is so impressed with canines’ ability to help humans, it’s pledged $300,000 to study the benefits of pairing war veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with psychiatric service dogs.
